The 16 Days worldwide in 2005
Ukraine

Women’s NGO in Ukraine are implementing various actions and activities during the 16 Days Campaign.

 

National NGO “Women’s Consortium of Ukraine in cooperation with Amnesty International, Ukrainian Educational Center of Reforms and local women’s organizations November 22-29 conduct press-clubs dedicated to 16 Days against Gender Violence Campaign. Press-clubs take place in 26 major cities of Ukraine. Press-clubs will bring attention of communities and media to problems of violence against women in Ukraine. In particular, will be disseminated and discussed results of the survey on domestic violence conducted in 2005 by Women’s Consortium of Ukraine during the implementation of Program “Community Initiatives in Combating Violence in Family: cooperation between government and non-governmental organizations”, supported by Democracy Fund of US Embassy in Ukraine.

 

West Ukrainian Center “Women’s Perspectives” (Lviv) during the 16 Days Campaign organizes activities aimed to bring attention and raise awareness of violence against women among NGO, governmental organizations, youth and media.

  • November 29 – 30 - Lawyers of organization will conduct “Lessons of Legal Knowledge” dedicated to problems of domestic violence and sexual violence, and ways of protection from these forms of violence in Ukraine, for students in five schools in Lviv.
  • November 30 - Press-clubs dedicated to 16 Days against Gender Violence Campaign in cooperation with National NGO “Women’s Consortium of Ukraine”, Amnesty International, Ukrainian Educational Center of Reforms.
  • November 30 – December 8 – lections on Prevention of Human Trafficking and illegal migration for law enforcement and other professionals in border areas of Lviv region.
  • November 30 – December 8 – dissemination of information materials on prevention of violence against women.
  • December 2 - round table dedicated to 16 Days against Gender Violence Campaign for women’s NGO from Lviv and region will take place at the “Women’s Perspectives” office. Round table organized as part of Women’s Informational Center Project, supported by the Ukrainian Women’s Fund.
  • December 2 – Press conference dedicated to International Day against Slavery organized in cooperation with IOM Ukraine.
  • December 3 - Action “Art and Children for World without Violence” will take place in Lviv Palace of Art. Children from art schools, studious and children NGO from Lviv and region will participate in Action. 
  • December 3 – 9 – transmission of video films on Human Trafficking Prevention “If I won’t come back…”, “Victims of Silence”, “Castles on a Sand”  on the local TV.

Donetsk Regional League of Business and Professional Women (Donetsk) Activities and Media Campaign for “16 Days Against Violence against Women” in 2005:

  • November 15-22 - Prepare and distribute articles about the League Hotline, Trafficking in Children, and “16 Days Against Violence Towards Women” in 64 newspapers and magazines throughout the region.
  • November 24     - Press Club meeting promoting “16 Days Against Violence Towards Women”.
  • November 26     - “Human Trafficking: Myths and Realities” roundtable with NGO leaders from the Donetsk Oblast.
  • November 28     - “Life Abroad: Myths and Realities” training at Donetsk Regional Unemployment Center.
  • November 29     - League volunteers begin monitoring of press articles.
  • November 30     - League volunteers handout 3,000 brochures at Lenin Square.
  • December 5 - Celebration of “Day of Volunteers” at DRLBPW for active League volunteers.
  • December 7 - League volunteers handout 1,000 brochures in Donetsk airport and 1,000 brochures at the Donetsk train depot. 
  • December 8 - Roundtables against Human Trafficking “Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Children and Youth” with specialist representatives in Debaltsevo, Slavansk, Tarez, Donetsk, Krasnarmeesk, and Telmanovskova regions.

 

Throughout the media campaign 4 – 8 lectures and discussions are planned for schools and educational institutions in Donetsk. 

 

Center “Chayka” (Rivne) – ProjectInitiatives and experience exchange aimed to combating human trafficking: policy and practice” (British Council in Ukraine) : 

  • December 8 -9 – training programs for social workers and psychologists on methodology of counseling of victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. 

Kherson Regional Center “Successful Woman” implement following activities during the 16 Days Campaign:

  • November 25 – press conference on 16 Days against Gender Violence Campaign in cooperation with Press Club of Reforms.
  • November 25 – radio program on 16 Days against Gender Violence Campaign and interview of Vice-Director of organization about preventive work in the fields of domestic violence and human trafficking.
  • December 2 – Press conference dedicated to International Day against Slavery organized in cooperation with IOM Ukraine, with participation of local government representatives, NGO.
  • December 8 – Press conference in cooperation with “New Generation” NGO in the project “Prevention of domestic violence and ill-treatment of children”.
  • December 8 – Round table for representatives of local government, law enforcement, social services, education, NGO and media, in cooperation with “Women’s informational and coordination Center” (Dnipropetrovsk).
  • December 8 – Press club meeting with participation of Heads of Police Departments responsible for implementation Law of Ukraine “About Prevention Violence in Family”, 20 journalists of main media and chief of Kherson Press Club. In cooperation with “Women’s informational and coordination Center” (Dnipropetrovsk).
  • December 9 – training program “Prevention Violence in Family” for district police officers and criminal police for juveniles from Kherson police departments. In cooperation with “Women’s informational and coordination Center” (Dnipropetrovsk).
  • November 25 – December 10 – training programs “Work abroad: Myths and Facts”, “Two Views on Violence” in rural areas of Kherson region. 

Lugansk Regional Center for Work with Women” (Lugansk) conducts activities during 16 Days Campaign every year since 2003. Before that, since year 2000 16 Days Campaign in Lugansk region was initiated and conducted by Department of Family and Youth of Lugansk State Administration and Regional Center “Women of Donbass” in cooperation with Information and Education Departments. Activities aimed to raise awareness about domestic violence, human trafficking, violence against children and other types of violence among communities taking place during the Campaign. 

  • November 25 – round table “Violence: analysis of problem and ways of prevention” for representatives of regional state administration, Department of Justice, Police Department, Lugansk Frontier Troops, NGO.
  • November 25 – December 8 – regional children drawing contest “My future family”, contest of social picture postcards about violence prevention, competition for best article about problem of violence among journalists; round tables, seminars, training programs dedicated to the Campaign take place in small towns and rural areas of the region.

Poltava Family Center “Family Home” (Poltava) in cooperation with Scout organization conducts during the 16 Days Campaign:

  • November 25 – talk-show “Gender problems in Ukrainian Society” on “Ltava” TV.
  • November 28-29 – training programs in towns Chutovo and Cobelyaky.
  • December 2 – press conference, training program and round table in Kremenchyk.
  • December 2 – press conference and candle “memory river” in Poltava
  • December 7 – training program and round table in town Kotelva.
  • December 9 – round table for representatives of women’s and youth NGO, fundraising campaign for shelter for victims of gender violence in Poltava, based on Poltava Family Center “Family Home”.

December 2 IOM Ukraine in cooperation with Ministry of Family, Youth and Sport, ILO Ukraine, OSCE, La Strada Ukraine and many others NGO organized Action dedicated to International Day for the Abolition of Slavery. Action with candle lights united many people took place in Kiev and many other cities of Ukraine. Action was conducted under the Project “Elimination of Human Trafficking in Ukraine” supported by European Union.
