Norwegian Equality and Antidiscrimination Ombud is an Agency established on 1 of January 2006. The Agency consists of two instances – the Equality and Antidiscrimination Ombud, headed by Beate Cangas and the Equality and Antidiscrimination Board of Appeals. All about the agency, the national Norwegian gender equality legislation and policies could be found at: www.ldo.no and http://www.gender.no/
The Ombud Office has the important role to clarify the terms - equality and equal opportunities for all. The use of statistics, visual materials, films, books etc. is an important tool to demonstrate inequalities and reach the society and powers that are not aware of the problematic. The Norwegian Ombud monitors the compliance of the national legislation, policies and governmental decisions with the UN Conventions on Eliminating All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and of Racial Discrimination (CERD).
