The name of this-year 16 Days Campaign – Advance Human Rights – End Violence Against Women focuses public attention on the state’s responsibilities for implementing the international documents in the field of prevention and fight with violence against women.
In this regard, Bulgarian reality shows that legislation regulating gender–based violence has been adopted – the Law on Protection against Discrimination (in force since January 2004), the Law on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings (in force since 2004), the Law on Protection against Domestic Violence (in force since March 2005). Furthermore, the executive power adopted two National Programs – National Program on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Protection of Victims and National Program on Prevention and protection against Domestic violence. Their implementation and monitoring are engagement of the executive power on all levels as well as of the non-governmental sector.
