CWSP has established long-lasting good partnerships with local governments and their organizations and regularly initiates and participates in various activities aiming at gender awareness-raising of municipal councils and administrations.
CWSP experts were invited to provide a training on The role of local authorities in guaranteeing gender equality for women mayors and deputy mayors, city councilors and regional and local administration from North East Bulgaria. The training was organized by the Association of Danube River Municipalities under a project, financed by the Foundation for Local Government Reform and was attended by 30 participants. The CWSP team prepared the training materials, which were distributed among the participants. Tatyana Kmetova presented the basic gender equality issues and discussed the international gender equality legal framework as well as its reflection on the new Bulgarian anti-discrimination legislation. Mrs. Hristina Georgieva, Deputy Mayor of Silistra Municipality shared her experience regarding the responsibilities of women at senior positions. The discussions, facilitated by Magdanela Delinesheva and Tatyana Kmetova, also focused on the opportunities for collaboration between the NGOs and the local authorities as well as the role of women in public administration.
The participants expressed their opinion that such initiatives give a good basis for the advancement of women and the achievement of gender equality at the local level.
